I think the shorts run a lil small. Im 5'7 165 pounds, I wear size 10/12 depending on stretch. I have slim hips and not much butt and top heavy. I purchased a size XL they fiit. That was the only size left so I cant say how the large would've fit. I think if you have hips and a butt they will fit cheeky. My friend bought the same size we usually wear around the same size on the bottom, except she has bigger legs & hips and she can't fit XL.
